Army General arraigned for threatening to ‘kill’ Buhari over defence contract; Buhari won’t return alive when he visits South East — IPOB . . .
The coordinator of peace keeping in the Ministry of Defense, Gen. Lym Hassan, had been secretly recorded allegedly threatening to ‘eliminate’ President Muhammadu Buhari over a defense contract. Gen. Hassan was arraigned before the military court on October 30, 2017 and charged with two allegations: spreading rumors that Buhari was dead and demanding $600,000 bribe from a defence contractor.
The Cable had reported that Buhari approved a $1,464,750 contract on September 26, 2016 for the relocation and refurbishment of Level 2 Ministry Hospital under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) following a directive from the UN. In February 2017, the contract was awarded to Opems Integrated Concepts Ltd for $1 million for a two-month execution period ending April 2017. But the job was not done, with Nigeria failing to meet the August 2017 deadline for the relocation of the hospital.
The ministry of defence later issued a directive to serving military officers to go and execute the contract, which involved supply of medical equipment as well as dismantling and re-assembling the hospital at a new camp. The bulk of the contract sum had allegedly been shared, and Hassan was said to have still demanded $600,000 from Opems. Unknown to Hassan, he was recorded while allegedly making the demand, sources told TheCable.
The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Monday warned President Muhammadu Buhari against his planned visit to the South East. Buhari is expected to visit Ebonyi through Enugu on November 14, 2017 and Anambra on November 15, 2017. Reacting to the planned visit, IPOB warned that the said date will be “recorded in history as a very bloody day should that Jubril masquerading as Buhari attempt to land on Biafran soil.”
The pro-Biafra group also said Ohanaeze and South East governors should be responsible and will bear the consequences of their attack on the president. In a statement by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB warned that “we will die with him should he set his foot on the sacred land of Biafra. HE WILL NOT GO BACK ALIVE.”
The statement reads inter alia, “ . . . Tuesday 14th November 2017 will be recorded in history as a very bloody day should that Jubril masquerading as Buhari attempt to land on Biafran soil. All those who plotted this visit will pay dearly. When the time comes their Northern masters will not be around to save them. We see them coming but they will not see us when the time for vengeance comes. Those who are hoping to welcome Buhari to Biafraland will suffer miserably. There will be no forgiveness . . . “
The proscribed IPOB is in other words saying that they will kill Buhari if he visits the southeast. Reports reaching our newsroom say the security agencies are not taking the IPOB threat lightly.
