4 British nationals kidnapped in Nigeria: Report

The Nigerian police has confirmed that unidentified gunmen suspected to be Niger Delta militants have kidnapped four British nationals in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. The Associated Press (AP) reported that the Police spokesman Mr. Andrew Aniamaka said on Wednesday that the three British men and one woman were abducted around 2 a.m. in Enukorowa community in the Burutu local government area.

Burutu is a Local Government Area in the Delta State of Nigeria. It lies on the coast of the Niger Delta on two sides of the Forcados River, a channel of the River Niger, 30 kilometres (20 miles) upstream from the Bight of Benin. Aniamaka said that the abductees include a doctor, his wife and two other men who were involved in preaching and providing free medical services to residents.

Aniamaka said that militants may have carried out the kidnapping. No ransom demand has been made as at the time of publishing this report.
