A Midwest movement is threatening to secede from Nigeria if the Nigerian government led by Muhammadu Buhari, which failed to leave up to its responsibility continues on that path. According to the Midwest group, their membership consists of the people of Edo state and Delta state, and  comprising 12 ethnic groups (12 tribes that include Akoko-Edo, Esan, Benin, Etsako, Owan, Anionma, Ika, Ndokwa, Urhobo, Isoko, Ijaw and Itsekiri). if the federal government continues to play ostrich with the recent spate of legitimate attempts to restructure Nigeria and it fails or is unable to play its legitimate role, the Midwest territorial area will adopt every legitimate means to take its destiny in its own hands and declare the Republic of Bendel (Bendel Republic) or chose any name of its choice, the group’s spokesman, Dr. Don Obsaseki and the convener of the movement said. According to him, the group is concerned about the current situation in the country. They demanded that the voices of reason on the calls for strict federalism by groups should be listened to, or else . . .

Focus On Devolution Of Economy Not Restructuring – Sultan of Sokoto

Sultan of Sokoto . Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar

The Sultan of Sokoto,Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, said this at the Niger State Investment Summit held in Minna the Niger State capital. The nation is blessed with natural resources to achieve greatness the Sultan said emphatically. According to him, all the dams across the country should be used for irrigation farming to produce local foodstuffs for home consumption and export. The Sultan also said that emphasis should be placed on agriculture for all year-round farming. With the required political commitment, it can be achieved, he said. Nigeria has mineral resources and if the country had utilized them well the resources would have developed Nigeria. The Sultan called on people agitating for the restructuring of the country to focus on devolution of the Nigerian economy – into agriculture – and abandon their inordinate ambition for the restructuring of Nigeria.

One of the pro-Biafra groups in the Southeast, MASSOB, has warned that any attempt to rearrest the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, will be stoutly resisted. The leader of MASSOB, Mazi Uchenna Madu made this statement recently. He reiterated that MASSOB and Nnamdi Kanu’s IPOB will never relent until the dream of realizing the Republic of Biafra comes to pass. Maxi Madu said that it was an insult for the Arewa Youths to tell Biafrans to abandon ‘our rights’. He said that the Hausa-Fulani had a pre-planned and organized dangerous consistency against the Igbo. He lambasted the Minister of the Interior (Internal Affairs), Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (Rtd.), for planning to rearrest kanu whose non-violent posture for determination of ‘our Biafra dream’ has not breached any law in Nigeria. Dambazau supported the Arewa Youths in the Igbo quit notice and Dambazau supported his people (the Hausa/Fulani) against the rest of the ethnic nationalities in Nigeria, but they are now wiser. The Arewa subjugation and plans against the people of the middle belt has now expired, the MASSOB leader reiterated.

Why Should Buhari, Dos Santos & Mugabe Go To Hospital abroad – BBC

The British state-owned public broadcaster, BBC, has slammed African leaders for going on medical vacations outside their countries, going abroad. Why should Buhari and the other African leaders travel abroad for medical treatment? the BBC queried. Buhari lacks faith in the Nigerian health system the BBC stated. According to the BBC, only Buhari stayed the longest away from his country. The apparent lack of faith in the health system of Nigeria came into focus. In many cases they leave behind poorly funded medical systems, the BBC said. The public health system in Nigeria is horrible the BBC also said. Buhari has spent more than 4 months in London seeking medical treatment for an undisclosed illness. The BBC stated that since 2013, the estimated cost of foreign medical treatments for Nigerian leaders (including ex-President Shehu Musa Yar’Adua) and government officials in Nigeria is $1 billion and this figure must have doubled because all government officials travel abroad for medical treatment.
