Northern Elders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday maintained that the zoning arrangement, which allotted the presidency to the North as approved by the party’s national convention still stands. The NNPC has stated that the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu got oil contracts for nine firms. The national oil company said Dr. Kachikwu made an input into the shortlisting of 40 off-takers for the Crude Term Contracts by recommending seven companies, which were engaged.
The NNPC faulted the Minister’s claim that he was not consulted on $10billion Crude Term Contracts. Also, the minister was said to have nominated two companies for the alleged Direct Sales, Direct Purchase (DSDP) transactions, which Dr. Kachikwu claimed were worth $5billion. The corporation said while the Minister was its GMD, he sent a memo to the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) seeking clarification on the status of the NNPC Tenders Board.
The war of integrity between Dr. Kachikwu and Dr. Baru got more intense on Wednesday. This is despite the hugging between both men, which some pundits say, has calmed nerves. Nigerians have not heard the last of this ‘leaked memo’ written by Dr. Kachikwu about Dr. Baru to President Muhammadu Buhari.

In the suit Number FHC/ABJ/CS/953/17, the plaintiff, Johnmary Chukwukasi Jideobi also asked the court to set aside the October 4, 2017 proceedings of the Senate on the ground that the Senate’s planned investigation is based on the contents of an unconfirmed document of doubtful origin. The defendants in the suit include: the NNPC; the GMD of NNPC; the Senate President and the Senate.

The immediate-past governor of the state, Mr. Peter Obi, who fell out with Gov. Willie Obano has been working to unseat Obiano his ex-political protégé.
