The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has urged Nigerians to ignore media reports on Coup plot, saying it should not be stretched beyond what the military authorities had said. Mr. Adesina stated this at a media chat with State House correspondents to mark two years of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration on Tuesday in Abuja. According to him, what the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Burutai, said about the issue was a “routine warning that goes to military officers.’’

Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting at Jabi, will tomorrow, rule on an application challenging the continued detention of the CEO of Capital Oil and Gas Ltd, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, by the DSS. Justice Halilu adjourned ruling on the application, on a day the DSS alleged that Dr. Ubah committed an economic sabotage punishable by death. The DSS told the court that the detained oil mogul illegally diverted about 84 million liters of PMS (ie petrol), that was kept in his custody by the NNPC.

The Bayelsa PDP has condemned an attempt by some persons to cause disaffection between former President Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Seriake Dickson. Also, the Ijaw National Congress (INC) and the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) have cautioned those fanning the embers of discord between the two Ijaw leaders. Chairman of the party, Sir Cleopas Moses frowned at the negative interpretation of Dickson’s statement during the 2017 Isaac Boro Remembrance Day. According to him, Dickson was quoted out of context. Dickson had said that Ijaw people did not benefit from Jonathan’s six-year presidency.

The Nigeria Customs Service, Tin Can Island Command, on Tuesday, intercepted a container laden with 440 arms and ammunition of various sizes and designs.

Speaking about the seizure, the zonal commander, Tin Can Island command, Monday Abue, who represented the Comptroller-General, NCS, Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd.) said that the cargo was shipped from Turkey. He said that the consignment was declared as Plaster of Paris by the importer.

Abue explained that the container with registration no. PONU 210024/1 was picked up based on intelligence report, adding that investigations were ongoing to unmask the importer.

Why Buhari could not be treated in Nigeria – Health minister


The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Folorunso Adewole, has assured Nigerians and the international community that there is no cause for concern over President Muhammadu Buhari’s health. “One thing we must realise is that health is a complex issue. There’s what we call patient-doctor relationship; there is also a bond between the patient and the doctor and these are things we can’t play with,” the minister said in an exclusive interview with THISDAY in Abuja.  “We should give him (Buhari) that choice. Buhari is currently in the UK seeking medical treatment for an undisclosed ailment.
