16 northern groups give Igbo October 1 to vacate northern region; MASSOB reacts to 0ctober 1 quit order on Igbo to vacate northern Nigeria; Asking Igbos to vacate North is end of Nigeria – Afenifere . . .
Sixteen northern youth groups rose from a joint meeting in Kaduna on on Tuesday to give Igbo residing in their states up to October 1, 2017 to vacate the northern region. This came days after the shutting down of major towns in the South East on May 30, 2017 as part of the campaign by pro-Biafra separatist groups, MASSOB and IPOB – for the actualisation of the sovereign state of Biafra.
Mallam Abdulazeez Suleiman who read the statement issued on behalf of others at the Arewa House in Kaduna said, inter alia:
“ . . . With the effective date of this declaration, which is today, Tuesday, June 06, 2017, all Igbo currently residing in any part of Northern Nigeria are hereby served notice to relocate within three months and all northerners residing in the East are advised likewise . . . From today, June 6, 2017, when this proclamation is signed, the North, a critical player in the Nigerian project, hereby declares that it will no longer be disposed to coexisting with the Igbo and shall take definite steps to end the partnership by pulling out of the current federal arrangement.. . .”
In its reaction, the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) said it received with gladness the “quit notice” and urged the Igbo to return home immediately. MASSOB appealed to Igbos in the North to start returning back to the South East.
In a statement, MASSOB leader, Uchenna Madu, said inter alia:
“ . . . The latest quit notice by the coalition of northern youths under the umbrella of Arewa youths is not a surprise gift to Biafrans residing in Arewa land. MASSOB is aware that such rascality will happen. As a matter of fact, this is the only rascality exhibited by sponsored Arewa youths to forcefully (sic) exit the people of Biafra residing in Arewa land that MASSOB will hundred percent support. Their Boko Haram tactics didn’t work as planned . . . MASSOB congratulates the Arewa political, religious, and traditional and opinion leaders who sponsored their youths wing by using Arewa House in Kaduna for this greatest meeting of a coalition of Islamic fundamentalists . . . The consciousness and realities of Biafra is highly overwhelming now.”
Pan-Yoruba political organisation, Afenifere has warned that the three months eviction issued by the Coalition of Northern Youths, CNY, for Igbos to vacate the North may be the beginning of the end of Nigeria.
Spokesperson of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, while reacting to the eviction notice, urged Northern elders to call their youths to order.
Afenifere spokesman Yinka Odumakin (photo: above) told The Sun, inter alia:
“ . . . Carrying out their threats would be a prelude to another pogrom. These elements have over the years showed their propensity to attack people, but like the Chinua Achebe said, they are holding a knife to the tiny rope that still holds the country together . . . I can boldly speak for the Yoruba nation, that if the north thinks they can declare another war against the Igbo, it would not work. If they see any Yoruba man joining them to fight the Igbo, then that person must be a mercenary . . . The Igbo were not fighting, neither were they causing any crisis, but were just trying to make their grievances known in a peaceful manner. Why should they be threatened? For northerners to tell them to leave the north is sad for the polity.”
Niger Reporters hereby state that Nigeria’s unity is not negotiable!
